Central Florida will host BYU in this weeks Thursday night college football action with BYU coming in at 4-1 while Central Florida sits at 2-2, losing to Missouri and Penn State. Central Florida is currently a -3 point favorite at 5 dimes sportsbook.
In case you haven’t heard, BYU star QB Taysom Hill went down with a season ending leg injury last week against Utah State and now must go the rest f the way with unproven transfer Christian Stewart. Hill was a potential Heisman Trophy contender and a team Captain and leader.
In the majority of the cases where a starting QB goes down in college football, there is instant value to be had by backing that team in the coming weeks simply because in most cases, the linesmakers and bettors overreact to such a loss. In most cases, the backup QB is not some kid they pulled off the street but rather a super star in his own right, highly touted and recruited and with a storied high school career behind him. Often times, the kid who gets his big chance goes on to become a star himself.
We’re not so sure we have that type of a situation here with BYU backup Christian Stewart. In fact, we’re pretty sure we don’t. So, we need to tread lightly here but we also need to remember that football is a TEAM sport and there are 21 other guys on each side of the ball that have contributed to BYU’s 4-1 start.
That being said, with Hill in the lineup, BYU put up some lofty numbers against a couple of pretty good defensive teams. That point production will surely go down. As of this writing on Monday morning, there is no total posted but we may look to play the Under in this one if the price is right. Check back on Thursday afternoon for a pick.
