Georgia

vs.

Florida

College Football Pick

10/29/16

The SEC East is still up for taking and while Florida has the lead, the fight for the title is far from over. The Gators still have to travel to Arkansas and LSU if that says anything, and that’s if they can get past this Game. Although, it’d be quite the disappointment if they didn’t as Georgia is coming off a tough home loss to Vanderbilt.

The Gators were on their way to a nice season until they fell apart in the second half against Tennessee. They were dominating and then they got dominated, en route to a 38-28 loss. OUtside of that Game, the Schedule has been pretty kind to Florida with a 13-6 road win at Vandy being its only other real test.

So while the Bulldogs haven’t looked great, it’s hard to automatically give the Gators a win here. Georgia’s Schedule has been a bit tougher, mainly due to a road Game at Ole Miss. That said, nothing has been pretty about Georgia this season with close wins over Nicholls State and Missouri sticking out.

Florida has had the edge in this meeting the last couple years and that should be the case again. They absolutely dominated last season 27-3, but the ‘Dawgs started Faton Bauta at quarterback in that Game and he went on to throw Four interceptions. Either way, Georgia’s defense was still ripped apart for 258 yards on the ground.

But can the Gators do the same with a trio of Jordan SCarlett, LAmical Perine and Mark Thompson at running back? against better competition, all three of those guys have faltered so there is reason to worry. And if that’s the case, can LUke Del Rio be good enough to win or get the cover for this team? Even in a huge win against Missouri, Del Rio completed less than 50% of his passes for one touchdown and three picks. If the running Game doesn’t work, there won’t be many points to be had for the Gators.

Of course, the same is for Georgia, who outgained Vanderbilt by more than 200 yards yet still lost. Their running Game was bottled up for 75 yards on 35 yards and while Jacob Eason threw for 346 yards, it didn’t matter because they couldn’t score. Both teams are going to take the same approach, there’s no questioning that, but the duo of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel have to get the edge over Florida’s backs, especially coming off a week of rest.

But will that be enough? Florida has the better defense and could stop the Bulldogs from reaching 20 or even 10 points. Whatever happens, don’t expect a lot of points. This one has all the makings of a similar result as to when these teams played Vanderbilt. It’ll be low scoring and close.

Typically in a spot like this, a Game likely to be low scoring, we’d lean towards the dog automatically. However, in this spot, we think the Gators are Superior on both sides of the ball and should shut down Georgia completely.  Florida -7 -120
