Boise State against Hawaii, reminds me of the old Kellen Moore vs. Colt Brennan days when these two teams would really put up monster numbers each week.
This year it is a matchup of two more standout QB’s in Cole McDonald of Hawaii who has over 1,600 yards and 17 TDs, against freshman sensation Hank Bachmeier who has nearly 1,500 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Boise has been cruising along this year, to a 5-0 start this season, coming off a 38-13 win over UNLV.
The Rainbow Warriors have bounced back nicely after their week 3 loss to Washington, winning two straight including last week’s beat down of Nevada with a score of 54-3.
McDonald really shined last week with over 300 yards passing and 4 touchdowns, and more importantly for him, zero interceptions, which has been an issue early on this season for him as he already has 9.
Both teams are pass first and each have standout wide receivers to lead them. Hawaii’s Cedric Byrd has an amazing 9 touchdowns this year with nearly 500 yards receiving. You may remember his week one game against Arizona where he had 224 yards receiving with 4 touchdowns.
Boise’s Khalil Shakir has been steady and consistent each week, totaling 357 yards and two touchdowns in his sophomore season. Shakir and Bachmeier look to be a deadly combo over the next couple seasons as they grow together.
Boise has won the last six matchups between these two teams, this week they come in as 11.5 point favorites, but the number I am looking at most is 59, which is the over under.
This seems like these two teams can hit 60 in the first half if they both get going early, and if Boise gets up big Hawaii will not stop throwing the ball to get back into it. This might be a classic shootout between these two teams, my lean is Boise to cover and over 59 points.
