South Florida came into this season off of a 1-8 2020 season, a year which saw them win their first game against the Citadel before dropping 8 straight. In those 8 losses were some tough opponents, such as Notre Dame and Cincinnati.
But they also couldn’t get past the likes of East Carolina and Temple. For the most part, this team was blown off the field in each and every game, though they did manage to score 46 points on UCF in their finale, a 58-46 loss.
Unfortunately, the picked up right where they left off to start their 2021 season. A 45-0 loss to NC State.
Florida 8-4 in 2020
The Florida Gators were 8-4 last season and battled every time they took the field. They gave Alabama all they could handle in the SEC Championship, losing a 52-46 decision, before finally running out of gas in their Bowl game, a 55-20 loss to Oklahoma.
The Gators opened their 2021 season last week with a 35-14 win over Florida Atlantic.
The Gators only won one game by more than 28 points last season, though it’s hard to find an opponent on their 2020 dance card as bad as South Florida looks to be. With that in mind, we’re not so eager to lay the big number here.
That’s especially true when you consider that Florida has a home game with none other than Alabama next week. This would be the text book example of a team potentially getting caught looking ahead.
