Thursday’s Western Conference Finals Game 2 – 2009

(Denver Nuggets @ Los Angeles Lakers)

Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony put on a show in LA on Tuesday night, but the Lakers ultimately took Game one to go one up in the series. It looks like the Lakers and Nuggets Western Conference finals series could be nail bitter throughout and go the distance.

Denver Nuggets @ Los Angeles Lakers Game 2

People have doubted the Denver Nuggets all season long. First the Nuggets got rid of former Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Camby and then they traded future hall of famer Allen Iverson and everyone in Denver was wondering what the hell was going on.

No matter how good they appeared to be throughout the season after the Billups trade everyone was just waiting for them to fall flat on their face, but that just never happen.

At first it seemed like the Nuggets were in the process of rebuilding around Carmelo Anthony and no one could blame them with their lack of defensive intensity and the fact they just couldn’t get past the first round of the playoffs. Trading their best defender in Camby and arguably their best player in Iverson seemed like an extremely drastic move, but it has all paid off as they are now playing to reach their first NBA Finals.

We have all known that Denver had a great team on offense over the years, but their defense has just been pitiful and one of the main reasons they haven’t been successful in the playoffs.

Oh how things have changed in Denver due to the addition of hometown boy Chauncey Billups at point guard as completely changed the look and feel of this young Nuggets team.

Not only are Nuggets now a legitimate NBA title contender with Chauncey running the point and the Nuggets bench really stepping up, but they are a great team on both offense and defense.

The Lakers struggled against the Houston Rockets and looked at one point like they lost that championship caliber edge, but they rebounded from their disappointing losses in semi-finals and now have that killer instinct back as they try to hold off the Denver Nuggets.

Game one was pretty competitive with both the Lakers and the Nuggets playing hard and motivated. Denver lead for the majority of the Game, but in the Fourth quarter it was Kobe time as he just took over by hitting clutch free throw after clutch free throw and finishing the Game with a Game high 40 points.

This series will be close and extremely competitive with Melo and Kobe going at each other, but I think Game two will have the same result with the Lakers going up 2-0 before heading to Denver.
