Week 2 NFLX Predictions

8/19/10

We enter week 2 of the NFL pre season and if you followed along last week, you saw some coaches live up to their reputations as being coaches who like to win in the NFL preseason. Specifically, how bout them Redskins! Do you think Mike Shanahan wanted to prove that there was a new sheriff in town? That was the perfect pre season set up. New coach, likes to win, taking over a program in shambles. Those or the things you need to look for in the pre season.

Let’s take a look at week 2 and see if anything jumps out.

Steelers at Giants – This would seem to be the perfect spot for the Steelers. We’d make this a key release had the Steelers lost in week 1, but they beat the Lions, so we’ll just make this a strong lean. But you have a Giants team that pretty much went all out in their win over the Jets last week. The Giants obviously wanted that Game and they paid a price. Eli Manning is still on queer street from the pop he took and you can be sure much more caution will be used this week by Tom Coughlin, a coach who doesn’t have much interest in pre season wins. Tomlinson on the other hand, is one of the best coaches of the current buNCh, to go with in the pre season. Others apparently agree with us as the line opened Steelers -1.5 and is now Steelers -3 at most sportsbooks.

Dolphins at Jaguars – Two go with coaches in Del Rio and Sparano. We’d lean towards the Jags here simply because they lost in week one and are playing their first home Game. Should be enough to get the W here but again, they are up against another coach who likes to win pre season Games. Jaguars -2

Not much else in the way of coaching matchups for week 2 that we see. There’s some go with coaches playing other go with coaches, as well as some go againsts playing each other. Week 2 is a tough week. It’s an important one for coaches to take a look at the new talent. They need to make some moved between this week and next, so we’re likely to see much less of the current talent and quite a bit from the guys who likely won’t be playing in the NFL this year. Many coaches point towards week 3 as the week where they try and put everything together for a big effort, before resting everyone in week 4 to get ready for the opening week of the regular season. I’d expect we’d have some legitimate plays next week.

The Steelers look like the best play on the board in terms of coaching matchups and the desire to win this week. Especially considering the what happened with the Giants last week. Other Games that stick out, from the perspective of line moves are the following :

Falcons moved from -1.5 to -2.5

Steelers moves from -1.5 to -3

Browns moved from -2.5 to 3-115

Chargers moved from -1 to -3 +100

Titans moved from -2.5 to -4 in one spot

Why are early week pre season line moved worth noting? Because the public is not moving lines early in the week on pre season Games. The public, for the most part, doesn’t start betting on pre season Games until Game day, and usually it’s in the hOurs leading up to the Game. The moves early in the week are the result of those that do their homework and are sitting their waiting to pouNCe when the openers are posted.

Remember to also pay attention to the news on the teams you are considering. The coaches frequently lay it all out for you in black and white, giving you their entire Game plan going in. QB Rotations are always annouNCed, so do your homework. Preseason betting is all about information. Good LUck this week!
