Summer hasn’t officially started yet but most sportsbooks have had week one 2014 NFL lines posted for quite awhile already. Take a look at Our live odds feed for all of the updated week one NFL lines as these lines will change quite a bit between now (end of May) and the beginning of the NFL season. We’ll post the odds as of May 27th below, as a refereNCe, so you can look back as time goes on to see which way these lines are moving.
Things change quickly in the NFL from one season to the next. Teams can go from first to worst or vice versa. Often times, matchups that look to be promising as we look ahead, turn out to be duds. That being said, here’s a few matchups for week 1 2014 in the NFL that look to be promising.
On Thursday September 4th, the 2014 NFL season gets underway with the Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks hosting the Green Bay Packers. When we last saw the Packers, they were hosting the 49ers in a Wild Card playoff Game, a Game which they lost by a field goal as time expired. No doubt that loss left a sOur taste in the Packets mouths so they could very well be a live dog come September. They are +5.5 point underdogs in Seattle in week 1 and we think we’ll likely see that number rise even higher by September.
Speaking of the 49ers, they visit Dallas as -3.5 point favorites in week 1. If this Game doesn’t have enough juice already, you can count on Cowboys owner Jerry Jones flapping his gums as this Game nears, no doubt. Our early take on this one is that we’d expect those +3.5’s to disappear by September as the Cowboys as a home dog to start the season will be too tempting for most bettors.
One other matchup that stands out in week 1 2014 is the Broncos and Peyton Manning hosting the Colts and Andrew LUck. All eyes will be on Manning and the Broncos to see how they react after getting clobbered in the Super Bowl 43-8 at the hands of the Seahawks. Will that keep the fire alive in Manning? Will the Broncos be looking to send a message in week 1? Or is this the year that father time catches up with Peyton Manning? The Broncos are -6.5 point home favorites in that one and we’d expect to see solid -7’s across the board by September.
