New York Giants
By Jason Green
It is pretty easy for the Redskins, as if they beat the Giants they will snag the 2nd NFC Wild Card. The Giants already have a Wild Card berth into the playoffs and this Game really does not mean anything for them in terms of playoff seeding. They are coming off a loss in their last Game and they lost to the Redskins earlier this season 29-27.
The Redskins are coming off a win over the Bears and they have the Cowboys to thank for beating the Detroit Lions on Monday night, which kept them alive for a playoff berth. This Game is all about the Redskins and their offense that ranks 9th in the NHL in points per Game facing a Giants’ defense that ranks 3rd in the league in opponents’ points per Game.
The Giants are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Games facing the Redskins.
In their last Game the Giants lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 24-19 where they did not cover the spread as a 1.5-point road underdog.
The Redskins beat the Chicago Bears 41-21 in their last Game covering the spread in the Windy City as a 3-point favorite.
The Giants outGAined the Eagles by a whopping 186 yards and they still lost committing 3 turnovers. QB Eli Manning was responsible for those throwing 3 picks even though he racked up the passing yards with 356 in the Philly Game. The Redskins only rank 28th in the league defending the pass, but in their win over the Bears in their last Game they had 5 INT.
The Giants rushed for 114 yards in the loss to the Eagles, but they still only rank 29th in rushing yards per Game. They will face a Washington run D that ranks 25th in the league.
Kirk Cousins was solid in the win over Chicago with 270 yards with a TD and no picks and the Skins rushed for over 200 yards in the Game. The run Game will be key, as Washington is much tougher to beat when they have a balanced offense. New York is a better team defending the run (7th) than the pass (22nd).
New York is 4-1-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record, 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 Games overall, and in their last 6 Games the posted total has gone Under 6 times.
Washington is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home Games, 10-3 ATS in their last 13 Games overall, and in their last 9 Games at home the posted total has gone Over 8 times.
Bettorsworld Pick – Neither of these teams can be considered legitimate playoff teams. Both are likely to be one and done in the playoffs (should the skins get in).
As far as this Game goes, we’re getting a little extra value in the line due to the circumstaNCes of the Game. Giants don’t need it while the Skins need to win to get in.
History tells us teams that need to win to get in are far from a lock. We’ll take the added value here. Giants +7
