World Cup Prediction

Current Odds

The United States find themselves as underdogs for the third straight Game in the World Cup, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise. What does surprise is the fact that they are tied for first with Germany at the top of Group G. In their final match of group play, the Americans aren’t as big of underdogs as one would’ve expected before the Tournament began.

USA started the Tournament with an opening-Game win over Ghana and more recently managed an unlucky draw, as Portugal scored the latest goal ever recorded in a World Cup.

Germany’s route was a little different as they destroyed Portugal in their first match, winning by an incredible 4-0 Scoreline. However, in their second Game they came back to Earth and needed to Scorea late equalizer to draw with Ghana.

The current odds at 5 dimes sportsook are:

USA +900

Germany -145

Draw +200

For this Game, both teams could tie and they would both advance, but it’s hard to see them taking that route. This will be the USA’s hardest task yet, and with a loss, there is no guarantee that they advance to the knockout rounds. They’ll be looking for points in this Game.

Germany presents an immediate attacking problem that the United States hasn’t seen yet. Even when these teams played last summer (a 4-3 USA win), it was the USA A-squad against a Germany squad made up of mostly players that haven’t even seen the field yet in the World Cup. Not to mention, Germany used a different formation in that Game as well.

USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann is German so he is somewhat familiar with the opposing team’s tactics, but that’s not all that matters. Whereas Portugal revolved most of their Game around one player, Cristiano Ronaldo, the Germans have a more complete team with Thomas Muller, Mesut Ozil and Mario Gotze leading the attack and Toni Kroos and Sami Khedira coming up the middle. All of these players are some of the best in the world and have scored six goals through two matches.

Considering one of USA’s weak points is their defense, it’s going to be vital that they have their best Game of the Tournament. Kyle Beckerman, USA’s defensive midfielder, will play a big part in stopping the Germans as that’s where you can stop their attack before it starts.

However, just like every other team in this group, Germany’s defense is its weak point and that was exposed against Ghana. They start Four normally central defenders on the back line, which forces players that aren’t used to the wings play those spots, and that means they can be beat.

USA was great on the attack in their match against Portugal, and they’ll have to match that threat here. Graham Zusi and Alejandro Bedoya will need to use speed to their advantage on the wings, while Clint Dempsey faces two bigger, but slower defenders in the middle.

Many people may think since the USA drew with Portugal, that they can draw with Germany. The German’s are on a different level though as seen in that early 4-0 Game. If Germany goes all out for the win here, it’s difficult to see how USA’s defense will stack up against possibly one of the best offensives in the Tournament.

The United States will have to match what Ghana did against Germany, and use their speed off the counter attack to get open looks on net. After what they did against Portugal, that shouldn’t be a problem.

We know Germany will score, but can the United States continue to get theirs?
