LSU AT AUBURN

Saturday 9/20  – 7:45 PM EST

This Game features two ranked teams in the top ten. With the Auburn Tigers leading the Southeastern Conference in the Western Division at 1-0 {Overall 3-0}, the Tigers of LSU are only one Game behind Auburn and is 2-0 for this young season.

Last week Wes Byrum kicked a 36-yard field goal in the second quarter and that was all No. 9 Auburn needed to defeat Mississippi State 3-2 on Saturday night. The Tigers (3-0, 1-0 Southeastern ConfereNCe) committed three turnovers, missed two field goals and handed the Bulldogs their only points with a safety.

But Auburn allowed only 116 yards to Mississippi State (1-2, 0-1). The Tigers new spread offense still has lots of work to do. Chris Todd was 14-for-26 for 154 yards and Ben Tate ran for 92 yards on 20 carries. The offense struggled so much, even the defense started to get worried in this Game.

As for LSU last week, Charles SCott keeps breaking loose for long GAins and LSU’s running Game looks as powerful as ever.

If the seventh-ranked Tigers don’t find a passing Game to match, they may not have it so easy when they begin Southeastern Conference play at Auburn next weekend.

SCott ran for touchdowns of 39 and 43 yards, Trindon Holliday scored on a 92-yard punt return, and LSU cruised to a 41-3 victory over winless North Texas on Saturday night.

The dominant victory came at a price. Starting linebacker Darry Beckwith left the Game with an apparent knee injury. Beckwith could not put any pressure on his injured leg as two trainers helped him to the sideline, where he was given crutches.

LSU head coach Les Miles declined to specify what the injury was other than to say “lower body.”

For the second time in as many Games, LSU (2-0) didn’t need much of a passing Game to win big. However, Miles said earlier in the week that he hoped to see his new quarterbacks complete more passes downfield in their second Game, and that didn’t happen often.
