Washington at Notre Dame Betting Line and Pointspread Pick

This was supposed to be “The Year” for Notre Dame Football. Charlie Weis has had plenty of time to get his players to run his system, and their star QB Jimmy Clausen was finally starting to live up to his expectations. They opened the season up against Nevada and they looked very good winning that one 35-0. Then it was time to head up to Ann Arbor to take on the Michigan Wolverines. Notre Dame had some bad breaks go against them and they lost that one 38-34. Then they followed it up by squeaking past both Michigan State and Purdue. They are 3-1 for the season, and if they are going to live up to their expectations and make it to a BCS bowl game they have got to do what USC was unable to do, beat Washington.
Washington has had a roller coaster season. They opened up with a hard fought
loss to LSU, and after a win over Idaho they were able to knock of the USC
Trojans. Everything was looking up for this season then they came up flat and
lost 34-14 to Stanford. So the big question is which Huskies team is going to
show up this Saturday in South Bend? I’m thinking the one that’s good enough to
down the Fighting Irish..

NOTRE DAME’S KEY TO VICTORY
Notre Dame has had very little problem finding the end zone this season. Jimmy
Clausen is having a dream year throwing 10 TD passes already to just 1 INT, and
WR Golden Tate has been having a career best year too. The one problem with this
Notre Dame team is they can’t stop anyone. When Notre Dame needs a big stop it’s
not happening, and the offense has to pick up the slack. That is not good news
with QB Jake Locker coming to town. Jake Locker is a duel threat QB that gives
any defensive coordinator fits. Notre Dame cannot keep relying on their offense
to win games for them. Defense wins championships, and unless Notre Dame can
play defense they are going to be very vulnerable to upsets, especially with
Washington and QB Jake Locker.
WASHINGTON’S KEY TO VICTORY
This Washington team is much improved from a year ago when they went 0-12. They
are lead by Senior QB Jake Locker and he is going to be the key to this victory.
This Notre Dame defense has had problems stopping the opposing team. Jake Locker
is a winner and he makes plays when his team needs him to. IF he is able to have
a big day come Saturday, this Washington team very well could be leaving South
Bend with the victory. The secondary will have to do all in their power to keep
Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen off balance. If they can force him to throw INTs, or
even slow him down then that will go a long way towards their cause.
THE FINAL VERDICT
This is a very difficult game to figure out. You have a Notre Dame team who at
times has looked like a Top 5 team, and other times have looked like the Notre
Dame we have come to expect these last few years. Losing WR Michael Floyd is
going to hurt, but luckily they still have Golden Tate. Then you have Jimmy
Clausen who is trying to get over a toe injury. A toe injury might not sound
that bad, but with a QB having to step and plant before throwing the ball it can
affect a him quite a bit. Notre Dame is going to have to play like they are
capable of to win this game, because Washington has already shown the ability to
pull the upset. Teams have had no trouble moving the ball and scoring on the
Irish this year and as mentioned above, Washington has already given LSU fits
and knocked off the Trojans. We'll take the generous spot here.
