Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Washington Huskies
Betting Line: Nebraska -3.5 Live Odds Here
9/18/10
This week the Nebraska Cornhuskers (2-0) will stroll into Husky Stadium to
face the Washington Huskies (1-1) in hopes of continuing a perfect season. So
far on the season the Cornhuskers have defeated Western Kentucky and Idaho which
aren't exactly what would be considered quality teams. Washington rebounded from
a week one loss against Brigham Young
University (BYU) to beat Syracuse easily
by a score of 41-20. This will be a battle of duel threat quarterbacks as
Heisman hopeful Jake Locker will attempt to lead his Huskies over the
Cornhuskers who will be led by freshmen quarterback Taylor Martinez.
Look for Nebraska to try to beat Washington on the ground. Running back Roy Helu
Jr. has rushed for 136 yards on just 14 carries while scoring two touchdowns.
Washington will also have to prepare for duel threat quarterback Taylor
Martinez. Through two games this season Martinez averages 14 yards a carry and
has a total of 284 yards on only 21 carries. He has punched in four touchdowns
on the ground as well. Martinez will also give the Washington defense fits
through the air. He has passed for 242 yards this season but has not thrown for
a touchdown. Let's not forget about a very solid Cornhusker defense. Nebraska
has only allowed three points in the first half total through their first two
games. They have forced eight turnovers through two games this season as well.
Washington will definitely pose a lot more of a challenge to both the offense
and defense of Nebraska than did Idaho or Western Kentucky.

For Washington to be successful in this game senior quarterback Jake Locker will
have to produce against a very stingy Nebraska defense. On the season Locker has
passed for 555 yards and five touchdowns in just two games. If Locker is
throwing it he will most likely be looking for Jermaine Kearse who through the
first two games has caught 14 balls for 287 yards and four of Lockers five
touchdowns. If the passing game falters the Huskies will turn to sophomore
running back Chris Polk who has carried the ball 36 times for 209 yards and one
touchdown. It goes without saying that if Locker is not on his game the Huskies
will be in very big trouble. The Huskies defense might be the biggest question
in this game. In their win last week they allowed 20 points to Big East bottom
feeder Syracuse and allowed 23 points to BYU in a first week loss. If those two
teams can put up 20 plus on them, then Nebraska should have no trouble scoring.
The Washington defense has only forced two turnovers this year and in two games
has allowed 518 yards through the air and 321 on the ground.
We think that Nebraska should have their way with Washington in this one. The
Washington defense has underperformed VS two very lackluster teams and their
offense is almost completely goes through the arm of Jake Locker. If the
Cornhuskers stop Locker they might blow this game open. We think that Nebraska
has too many threats on both sides of the ball for Washington to hang with them
long. The Nebraska defense has the talent to stop a very good quarterback in
Jake Locker while the offense has two very talented players in Taylor Martinez
and Roy Helu Jr. who are capable of busting big plays at any time. We see
Nebraska going into Washington and coming out with a win by multiple scores.
