NC State will host Wake Forest this week in what will be their first game of the 2020 COVID season. Wake Forest took on Clemson last week losing 37-13.

Wake Forest Solid in 2019
The Demon Deacons were 8-5 last season yet were only a handful of points away from 11 wins. They lost by 3 to Louisville in a shootout, lost in OT at Syracuse and lost to Michigan State by 6 in the Pinstripe Bowl.
It was a season that saw them beat the likes of Utah State, North Carolina, Boston College and Florida State. All in all, a solid football team in 2019.
Wake Forest lost quite a bit of talent offensively yet retained a good group defensively. That may have showed last week as they held the mighty Clemson offense to fewer points than many predicted (though Clemson called off the dogs) while their offense could never get going.
NC State Terrible in 2019
NC State was 4-8 last season. It wasn’t a good 4-8 either, if there is such a thing. In other words, it’s not as if they lost a bunch of close games. They were manhandled by just about every decent team they played, including a 44-10 loss to Wake Forest.
Having a game under their belts against the best team in the country can only help Wake Forest here. This week, they’ll find things that didn’t work against Clemson will in fact work against NC State.
NC State coach Dave Doeren had 5 consecutive winning seasons after starting his Wolfpack career 3-9. The guy can coach and there’s little doubt he’ll have this team prepared to improve on that 4 win mark. But the schedule is not an easy one making home games like this one must win games.
We’d like to give NC State a crack here. It’s a triple revenge spot and a chance to avenge last years embarrassing blow out, their worst ever to Wake Forest. But it’s incredibly difficult to trust a team that couldn’t come within two TD’s of any decent team a year ago.
