In 2020 Colorado went 6-2. It was a season that certainly brought hope for the future. Heading into last season the Buffs had 1 winning season out of the last 14. Going 6-2 with wins over the likes of UCLA and Stanford definitely has fans excited about 2021.
Colorado beat Northern Colorado in their opener, 35-7 and then last week lost a defensive 10-7 game against a Texas A&M team many think can compete with Alabama this year.
Minnesota Has More Recent Success
The Gophers have had more recent success. Not so much last season, as they were a disappointing 2-4. Of course, covid played a role. But look back to 2019, a season in which the Gophers were 11-2 and beat Auburn 31-24 on New Years Day in the Outback Bowl.
It’s worth noting that Minnesota comes into this game riding the longest non conference winning streak in the country at 20 straight. The closest to them in non conference winning streaks is Iowa at 13. The Gophers even beat out Alabama here who has won 10 straight.
But all streaks eventually come to and end and we think that may be the case here. Judging these teams from what they did last season and what they have done so far this season, Colorado looks like the better team. The Buffs looks like a team ready to put it all together and make some noise.
Not being able to put away Miami Ohio raises red flags for the Gophers. At -2.5 we’re basically just being asked to pick a straight up winner here. We think Colorado gets it done at home and our model agrees as it has the Buffs by 4.
