Utah State returns just about everyone who started last season while Air Force is intact defensively but returns just 4 to the defense.
We think that the Air Force defense could be the key to this game. Taking a quick look back to last season we see this Utah State offense scored 13, 7, 9, 16, 41 and 7. Before getting too excited about the 41, that was against New Mexico.
Defensively last year, Air Force gave up 7, 17, 49, 0, 7 and 10. The 49 came against Boise State. The Falcons had a yards per point number of 20.3 which was 3rd best in the nation. Sure, schedule strength is a factor. But regardless of who you play, 20.3 equals a legit defense.
Utah State is an improved team, but not too far removed from last years 1-5 team. The total on this game moved from 50 to 54.5 so we think we have some added value on the under in a game that we were looking to go in that direction to begin with.
