Schedule and Odds
For Bill Synder’s Kansas State team, it usually doesn’t matter how many players he’s returning, or even who’s returning. His teams usually fight with anyone on their Schedule no matter how the season is going. The Wildcats had plenty of new faces last year, lost their opening Game to NDSU and still contended with the best of the Big 12 en route to eight wins.
Sportsbook.ag lists Kansas State at odds of 110 to 1 to win the National Title while 5 dimes has the over/under win total at 7.5. Bettors have favored the over 7.5 wins as their is now a money line of -150 attached to the over.
This season should be different for KSU as their quarterback position is settled with Jake Waters taking over sole duty after splitting a lot of time with dual-threat Daniel Sams last year. He’ll get plenty of talent back at wide out with Tyler Lockett (1,262 yards, 11 TDs) set to be one of the best in the nation along with Curry Sexton. The loss off running back John Hubert hurts, but they’ll have senior DeMarcus Robinson stepping in or even freshman Dalvin WarMACk. Maybe even tight end Glenn Gronkowski will be used in the Game plan more.
The offensive line loses a couple starters, but they’ll still have two guys that will fight for all-Conference honors in Cody Whitehair and B.J. Finney so don’t expect too much drop-off. That should help whoever takes over as the lead RB.
The defense takes an even bigger hit with plenty of seniors leaving and only Four starters back. End Ryan Mueller will be the difference maker of this unit after piling up 11.5 sacks last season and defenses will have to Game plan around him. Kansas State still has some solid returnees at other positions like Jonathan Truman at linebacker and Dante Barnett at safety, but it’s going to depend on the players around those guys.
The Wildcats have guys with experience and some new transfers, but how will they look against Big 12 teams for a full season? With Snyder as coach, people usually expect the best and that’s why KSU is projected to be one of the top teams in the Conference again.
The start of KSU’s season isn’t all that friendly as they have to travel to Iowa State for the annual Farmageddon in their second Game, then have to face Auburn on a Thursday night in their next Game. If the Wildcats can get away from those Games, that would be extremely impressive, but also a longshot with a young defense. Road Games at Oklahoma and Baylor are going to be difficult and will probably put them looking from the outside at the top of the Big 12 standings.
A three-Game stretch of at Oklahoma, vs. Texas and vs. Oklahoma State will decide Kansas State’s season. If they can at least win those two home Games against Texas and OK State, that would be huge for them in the long run and give them the edge in at least the top three in the Big 12.
