Kansas State will host Texas Tech this Saturday, October 3rd in a game that saw the Wildcats open as -4 point favorites at betonline before Texas Tech money flowed in bringing that number to -2.5 as of Monday afternoon. The total is 63.5.
These two teams have had some crazy results early on in 2020 which we’ll attribute to this crazy COVID-19 football season.
Kansas State lost in week 1 to Arkansas State only to come back last week and upset Oklahoma as 27 point underdogs!
Wildcats Impacted by COVID
The Wildcats were directly impacted by the virus as they played their week 1 game without 30+ players. It’s hard to tell what the lasting impact will be from the mini outbreak on their team, but they certainly looked fine last week against the Sooners.
Similarly, Texas Tech struggled in week 1 against Houston Baptist, squeaking out a 35-33 win. But last week, as big dogs to Texas, they took the Longhorns to double OT in a shootout that was won by Texas 63-56.
These teams met last year in a game which Kansas State won 30-27. The game saw Tech out gain the Wildcats 512 to 372. The Red Raiders won the game in the box score but lost the game where it counts, on the scoreboard.
If you consider that Texas Tech is the team in better shape in terms of returning talent for 2020 combined with last years 3 point game AND the fact that Kansas State was hit with the virus, the Red Raiders start to look like an attractive underdog.
Kansas State upsetting Oklahoma only adds line value to the Tech side here. We’d obviously prefer to have grabbed the +4 on the opener but any points will be worth taking with this Tech team all year long as they’ll always be dangerous with an offense that can produce the way they do.
Texas Tech +2.5 (watch the board, hope for more)
