Chiefs

Week 3

NFL Free Pick

9/25/16

The New York Jets visit the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3 of the NFL season. The Jets are 1-1 and are coming off a shootout win over the Buffalo Bills. The Chiefs are 1-1 and are coming off a tight loss to the Houston Texans. These teams are fairly comparable on the defensive side of the ball. The differeNCe comes on offense, where the Jets have been one of the more successful offenses in the league, while the Chiefs have had an average offense through the first two weeks. have Kansas City as a 3-point favorite and the over/under marked at 43.

Ryan Fitzpatrick ranks in the top 10 in the league in yards per pass attempt at 8.16. He’ll be going up against the NFL’s 15th-ranked passing defense in Kansas City as they allow 243.5 passing yards a Game.

Fitzpatrick has had a number of target that he can distribute the ball to. Eric Decker, QuiNCy Enunwa and Brandon Marshall have combined for 30 receptions, 442 yards and three touchdowns. Each one possesses the size necessary to go up and battle for the ball. Decker is 6-foot-3, 214 pounds. Enunwa is 6-foot-2, 225 pounds. Marshall is 6-foot-4, 230 pounds.

Matt Forte has been a welcome addition to New York. He has 52 carries for 196 yards and three touchdowns. While that’s only an average of 3.8 yards per carry, Forte has proven to have the durability necessary to give the Jets a second option for how they are able to move the ball.

Alex Smith has thrown for 549 yards while completing over 60 percent of his passes. Smith has been sacked seven times already through two Games.

The Chiefs’ offense operates different than most in the NFL these days. Their running backs have great production, but they have not carried the ball very many times. The top two backs, SpeNCer Ware and Charcandrick West, have combined for 187 yards on 30 attempts. Both are averaging in excess of 6.0 yards per rush.

Despite not running the ball all that often, the Chiefs have gotten Ware involved in the passing Game. In addition to solid numbers on the ground, he also has nine receptions for 177 yards. That’s an average of 19.7 yards per catch. The ball has also been distributed to Jeremy MAClin and Travis Kelce in the passing Game who both have over 100 yards receiving through two Games.

There’s been a lot made of Darrelle Revis getting beaten in the passing Game deep down the field through the first two weeks, but the Chiefs do not offer a lot offensively in terms of the deep passing Game.

Prediction: The Jets ought to be able to continue moving the football. Both quarterbacks do a good job of protecting the football, but it’s more up to their receivers as to how good they are making big plays. The Chiefs have really struggled against the run, while the Jets have been very good stopping runs for short GAins. Watch out for Matt Forte to have an excellent Game. He’s already getting a lot of touches. He just hasn’t had his chance for a true break-out Game. Jets +3
