The Carolina Panthers will host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football this week. The Panthers are 2-0 and the Steelers are 1-1 off of last weeks 26-6 loss to the Ravens. The betting public is favoring the Panthers by a 65% margin in this one and currently the Panthers sit at -3 -125 at 5 dimes sportsbook.
If you’ve followed Our NFL write ups this year at all, you know that I was anxious to see the Panthers play. I’m a defensive guy, and enjoyed watching their defense in 2013. They made a flurry of off season moves on both sides of the ball and my thinking going in to this year was that there would be no way the Panthers management would mess up a defense like the one that took the field last year.
Well, it’s only two Games in, but so far, I was right. In week 1 the Panthers GAve up 14 to Tampa which really didn’t prove much considering the Bucs revamped their offense. However, shutting down the Lions last week and holding them to just a TD goes a long way towards making a statement that the Panthers defense is still a force.
More importantly, the offense, where they made the majority of their off season moves, looked good last week. Newton seemed in syNC with the rest of the offense in his fist start and moved the ball around hitting 7 different receivers.
With a defense that could be as good as last years and an offense that’s improved, the Panthers could very well be legitimate contenders this year which could and should spell trouble for the Steelers. Let’s face it, the Steelers offense has had trouble getting out of it’s own way in recent years and judging by last weeks 6 point offensive explosion against the Ravens, it doesn’t look like much has changed.
Only one way to go here. Panthers -3 -125.
